Our Learn to Row Sessions:  Rowing is extremely good for your physical and mental health and it can be great fun too - on and off the water!  Our six week "learn to row" courses and taster sessions will get you started and then you will progress to the "Improvers" section. You'll soon be able to confidentally book yourself onto a row, via our online booking system and enjoy the benefits of rowing. And if you take to it like a duck to water and have a competitive streak, then you can work your way up to be be considered for squad (competitive rowing). We've got a dedicated team of members who look after new rowers from Day 1 and with crews of 6 rowers per boat, you'll be in a small friendly group right from the start.  Please use the following link to join up or contact us via newrowerswrc@gmail.com

Have you rowed with another club and are keen to row for Weymouth ?

Make sure that you let us know if you have any previous rowing experience.  If you wish to join the competitive squads, we'll be able to to put you in touch with one of our squad captains who can assess whether you are ready to join them or the intermediate section. You will need to be able to train on and off the water, at least 3 times a week from late March until October and just a little less during the winter months.

Club regattas are great fun and held in some of the best locations along the south coast and the south west, from March to October,  mainly during the summer months.

Guidance on cancelling rowing

extract from the clubs H&S document;

"Rowing activity at sea should not be commenced if any of the following criteria are forecast to occur in the intended sea area for the rowing activity during a period of two hours immediately after launch:

•     mean wind speed of 15 statute miles per hour and a maximum of 19 statute mph;

•     sea state exceeds 3 (wave height 0.6 metres mean, 1.0 metres maximum);

•     visibility is less than1 kilometre.

            Lower constraints should be applied if the crew includes more than two junior or novice rowers or if the crew as a whole is assessed by the coxswain as weaker than average.

            If sea and weather conditions in the bay are unsuitable, then rowing may be confined within the harbour provided it is safe to launch and recover the gig(s) and there is no conflict with other harbour traffic."

How the wind and its direction could affect rowing within the harbour Wind Direction map, an aid to seeing how the wind direction could affect rowing.

After considering all the guidance and factors above an assessment of the rowing for the day in question will be made and it may reluctantly be cancelled.
